Early days of Photography in Sevenoaks

Arising from an abiding interest – over many decades – in all things photographic, I have collected photographs by early professional photographers in and around Sevenoaks. The collecting habit led to researching their working lives. Although there were amateur photographers in the area, I focused most research on professionals as there is at least some publicly available information about them.
On display is a selection of scanned & enlarged photos – a mixture of scenic and portrait images – along with some biographical notes about the photographers to give a flavour of the growth of the photographic trade in Sevenoaks in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
My lifelong interest in photography started from simply taking pictures. Over the years my fascination has extended from simply taking ‘standard’ two-dimensional photos to both taking and collecting stereo 3D images and latterly to delving into this aspect of local history.
I am a long-time member of Sevenoaks Camera Club, the Stereoscopic Society and SVAF.
