A solo exhibition of works on paper by Christina France
Terra Luna
‘Terra Lunar was made for Greenwich Printmakers’ 40th anniversary exhibition at the Watts Gallery. It owes its provenance to both the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and the Watts Gallery’s Moonscape exhibition. The way in which artists were captivated by the painterly challenge of depicting nocturnal landscapes, and saw the moon as a symbol of nature’s enormity resonated with me. My own challenge is one of lyrical abstraction.
Thursday 14 November 18:00 – 20:00
Private View and talk by the artist:reflections, shadow and line. A journey through print, paper and time.
All welcome
Christina France is a visual artist based at Second Floor Studios, 96 Sevenoaks High Street. Christina works with print, drawing and a combination of the two. Creating embossed drawings and prints as a response to light, water, the skies and reflections she offers the viewer a contemplative respite from our fast moving, digital world.
As a printmaker, she responds to the medium with spontaneity, connecting to the haptic nature of the process. She has a painterly approach to the medium using unconventional methods in order to achieve the layering and translucency she strives for. Gold and silver leaf or dust is sometimes gilded onto the surface.
Saturday 16 November 13:00 – 14:00
Join the artist for an informal presentation of exhibited work alongside preparative work and sketchbooks. The artist will be demonstrating some of the techniques and materials used in making work in the expanded field of printmaking today. No booking required.
