Draw And Bite

18 September – 5 October  2024

Draw and Bite Exhibition

Curator of Draw and Bite print maker and illustrator Mai Osawa trained as a set designer. Fascinated by the old stone buildings of Europe she longed to understand what historically it must have been like to be a mason or an architect. Mai has found that the physical process of etching is almost as much of a challenge for a printmaker as is the challenge a mason faces when striving to achieve a perfect building or carving. Because of this, she has been concentrating her time on the etching process. The most important aspects for her are ‘light’ and ‘dimensions’, and she hopes that these can help the viewer project their own stories and imagination on to the work.

This exhibition Draw and Bite will show works using the process of the etched metal plate printed on paper. The exhibition will be built around tones of black and/or sepia ink. Mai was delighted to have received Open Call submissions of over 50 etchings for the “Draw and Bite” exhibition in the gallery, Russ Hill Print Room Etching Club and Ochre Print Studio Etchers will exhibit work with selected SVAF members.
