Lilia Kodunova Figurative and Portrait Artist ‘Voices” Solo Exhibition

Lilia Kodunova Figurative and Portrait Artist

‘Voices” Solo Exhibition

 2 – 19 April 2025

“Voices” is an exhibition that draws on the profound impact of war on individuals and communities through a collection of evocative paintings. Some artworks poignantly capture the pain and loss experienced during the conflict in Ukraine, serving as powerful reminders of its human cost. In contrast, other pieces reflect my memories of homeland and celebrate moments of joy that can be found even in difficult times. This duality highlights the complexity of human emotion, inviting viewers to engage with both the sorrow and resilience that define our shared experience. “Voices” ultimately serves as a tribute to the enduring spirit of hope amidst adversity.

About Lilia

I am Lilia Kodunova, a Ukrainian-born artist now living in England. My work transcends mere physical likeness; I endeavour to explore the inner worlds of my subjects, capturing their essence and the complexities of their experiences.

The ongoing war in Ukraine has significantly shaped my art, infusing it with themes of turmoil and uncertainty while simultaneously embodying a profound sense of hope. As a refugee, my experiences have become a poignant lens through which I reflect on the struggles faced by many, transforming personal pain into a broader commentary on the human condition.

As a figurative artist, I view my work as a powerful medium for communication. I believe that art possesses a unique ability to convey messages, evoke emotions, and foster meaningful dialogue. My artistic vision is rooted in the conviction that art can be as loud as words—capable of telling stories and addressing pressing social issues. Through my figurative representations, I invite viewers not only to witness but to engage with the narratives I present, fostering a deeper understanding of the shared human experience and encouraging connection in a world often marked by division.
