Martin Wells
11 – 21 August 2021
Martin Wells is a portrait painter based in Sevenoaks. He works for a range of clients in the UK and overseas; most notably being commissioned to paint Sheikh Mansour,
a leading member of the Emirati royal family.
This show, in large part, is a collection of new portraiture with much of the dry media work coming from the weekly life drawing group he runs in Sevenoaks.
Biography
On graduating from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design in the nineteen seventies, Martin began as a portrait artist in Fleet Street producing illustrations for the national and international press.
He then had a successful career as an art director in the creative departments of several London ad agencies.
In the nineteen nineties he studied period painting techniques with David Cranswick, a specialist in old master materials, using methods that remain central to his current working practice.
